Now a days, it seems that it has become rather customary
to buy personal care products with pleasing fragrances. The market is full of “apple
pie”, “lavender fresh”, and “coconut blast” etc. spray products. However, a
research study conducted by Mahmudur Rahman and Ki-Hyun Kim which aimed to
analyze the levels of hazardous contaminants of 10 spray products, including but
not limited to body sprays, hair sprays, air sprays, deodorants, and insect repellents
showed that for almost all of the spray products toxic harmful pollutants where
found. Benzene, toluene, styrene, methyl ethyl ketone, butyl acetate were a few
of the identified compounds (Rahman and Kim 2014). In fact, these chemicals are
part of the major group of indoor pollutants recognized (Rahman and Kim 2014). Evidenced
suggest that frequent use of these chemicals though out time might increase respiratory
health problems (Rahman and Kim 2014). Thus,
it is suggested to consider using less spray products.
Although the demand is high for these types of spray
products, it is always important to keep in mind the overall turn out of what
we are using. It might seem exaggerating to think a body spray can harm you,
but it is never wrong to try and stay away from the synthetic compounds to embrace
the natural things. If you would like a flowery scented home, perhaps purchasing
a nice ornamental pot of flowers. A simple change can make a difference in your
life and others.
