The article explains how the use of
traditional cook stoves in rural Asia has resulted in indoor air pollution and
significant health hazards. Nontraditional cook stoves provide a safer
alternative in reducing these impacts; however, the adoption of using
nontraditional cook stoves hasn’t produced positive results. Many individuals
don’t think that indoor air pollution is an issue and many prefer to stick to
their traditional roots. The cost of traditional cook stoves are significantly
lower than nontraditional cook stoves which low income families can buy as well
as low income families tend to not have electricity to power nontraditional
cook stoves. So, redesigning and disseminating nontraditional cook stoves are
underway in order to fix these issues to advance environmental sustainability
(Mobarak el al. 2012).
